Understanding Osteoporosis: Empowering Patients to Protect Bone Health Through Targeted Education
Osteoporosis acts as a silent thief. Early bone loss shows no symptoms, so most patients are unaware of their risk until a fracture occurs. This causes late-stage complications like back pain or stooped posture, leading to anxiety and hindering proactive care.
To bridge this gap, I simplified complex clinical data, from DEXA scan diagnostics to hormonal risk factors, into an accessible infographic. Using Plain Language (Grade 6 readability), I listed management strategies like fall-proofing homes and optimising Vitamin D intake as clear, actionable steps. This visual approach replaces medical jargon with clarity and eases the emotional burden of a chronic diagnosis.
This project empowers patients by increasing awareness of osteoporosis risks, improving understanding of bone health management, and enhancing confidence to take proactive steps such as scheduling screenings and implementing prevention tips. As a result, patients are better equipped to advocate for their health, leading to more timely interventions and reduced complications.
